IS RAHUL A REAL MUMBAIKAR ?

Rahul Gandhi came to Mumbai, he saw Mumbai for four hours and flew back to the cosy comfort of his home in New Delhi. Can he be called a friend, philosopher and guide of Mumbaikars? Can he assume the name of a Mumbaikar? It is for the wise and the learned to decide on examining facts.

Mumbai had not seen such a tight security system as was put in place for the Prince of Wales of the oldest political party of the country. And pray, why not? Every citizen is entitled to protection of life, limb and property from the State. The constitution of India guarantees that. How many citizens get that sense of security, leave alone actual security? Not many. The State works through the government. The government of the day chooses a few bigwigs and provides them security. The rest are left to fend for themselves.

The Islamist terrorists based in Pakistan enter India at their own sweet will. They strike at public institutions like the Sansad Bhawan, the temple of democracy, kill our security personnel at will. Our brave Jawans kill the terrorists risking their life and limb. A dreaded terrorist is caught and sentenced to death through due process of law but is not hanged as the petty politics of vote bank comes in the way. The scion of the family that runs the show where the family is above law, visits Mumbai as a part of a drama to show how he loves the common man.

The Prince of Wales travels in the Mumbai local but is surrounded by the security personnel. He later travels First Class but he is the sole genuine passenger in the coach. The coach had been emptied of real travellers for the security of the Prince. The “bought news” says that the Prince of Wales of the oldest political party endeared himself to the common man of Mumbai. The new Mumbaikar loves Mumbai as much as the real Mumbaikars who have been living there for many centuries. One must admire that the Travel Play was scripted well and enacted by professional actors. The whole drama smacked of a 17th century play called “Comedy of Errors”. Only the newscaster goofed when he said that the scion travelled like a commoner in a local and in the same breath blurted out that the First Class coach had been emptied of genuine passengers for the security of the political bigwig called Rahul Gandhi.

On a TV channel a few interviews were shown to emphasise how the common man was won over by the crown prince. One wonders why all men so interviewed were wearing black coats and ties. Was it a put up show by students of a management college? One does not know for sure.

Was the show staged for the benefit of a man who praises Pakistan as the land of his father and in spare time acts in movies sporting his surname? Well, a statistics expert says that the Bollywood was silent in its support to him earlier and their silence was deafening.

However, after the visit of Rahul Gandhi they found their voice back and all are croaking like frogs in the rainy season. Let them tire out their vocal chords. We sign off for now.
